Vintage Hip-Hop: Rocky B X Shellz D. Collab to present "RNS"
The end of 2017 calmly concluded with a fire duo project by Rocky B. and Shellz D . Both's MC's hail out of the Bronx and pride on lyricism, in depth song content and passionate music with a message. The project gave me the vibe reminiscent to classic Styles P. and Jadakiss collaborations. The chemistry between both artists were present on each song and they both hit each track with strong lyrical verses. In addition to the lyricism approach on every track, there was also a good blend and balance of both artists alternating on hooks and bridges. The dark harmonies of Rocky B. give the tape a well rounded sound while Shellz attacks the tracks with aggression and confidence. Rocky also punches on the verses/ tracks in which are not harmony based with clever rhyme schemes, cadences and entendres. I was most impressed by the beat selection being that they chose modern beats but blessed it with old school lyrical boom bap like approaches on the verses. No bars taken off. I was also extremely impressed with the engineering of the project. The listen on speakers was great but in headphones it is exceptional. Subtle delays, placement of reverb as well as adlibs add to make the songs stronger. The mixing was very strong and the song selection was very diverse. Take time out to listen "RNS" below and check out their official visual shot by the infamous Director Gambino titled "Crooklyn" as well.
